2001 F350 S/d
Looking at the tailgate revealed that it was originally a Canadian truck (a dealership sticker). Would this make any difference in original equipment, or asking price?
Thanx in advance, 69-highboy
I drove that truck yesterday and it's a dream. Down by my left foot I found a DP tuner with no adjustments that I could find, and under the hood the previous owner had upgraded the turbo to a ball bearing unit. I have no idea what the HP rating is as the P/O is dead and his widow is selling the unit. Also, there were no other gauges except the factory units. Other than initial start up it was quiet with a tad bit of "diesel rattle" on up shifting. The transmission felt solid and went into O/D as it should: about 45mph, and it shifted without hesitation. It is not "squishy" like my buddy's '96 F250. It stops in a straight line, and passing cars at 55 to 75 is child's play. It has 3:73s and cruises around 2000 revs at highway speeds.
The interior was "clean as a whistle" with only a few scratches in the driver's side, and the seats didn't have the usual "beat down" look. Why would an '01 have a manually adjusted lumbar support when the 96's had a push button? Anyway, the carpeting, door panels and glass are all good condition, and the P/O even had a shoe box full of old oil receipts and parts as he'd done most of the maintenance himself. A trip to the Ford garage for new front brakes and turned rotors lead to the discovery that no warranty work had ever been done to this truck, so near as I can tell the P/O had 7 trouble-free years!
Here's the rub -since it was originally a Canadian truck, the title shows that the mileage has been changed. IIRC, I thought there was a certificate that came with said adjustment, and that the "adjuster" had to be licensed. I don't suspect the mileage is wrong since everything else in the trucks looks like a 70,000 truck should, but I do wonder about the book value. I would hate to jump into something that's automatically worth 30% less than it should be, am I over thinking this?
Thanx in advance...
The only thing I would look into is how to change the display from KM to miles. If you disconnect your batteries your CAN truck may try and revert back to KM. It also sounds like investing in some guages would be a good idea with the DP & upgraded turbo.

I didn't get the VIN because I was running out of daylight on the test drive, anyhow, I'll see the guy sometime today if all goes according to plan. I'd like to get the truck, but need a 1ton like I need a root canal! Yes the DP without gauges does concern me, and I'd like to find a stock rig, but this rig was owned by a 65 year old man, so I don't believe it was mistreated. As I understand it, he and the MRS used it to tow a 24' travel trailer, otherwise it sat in the garage.
My plan has always been to find a good F250, but it seems no such animal exists here as everything I've seen is either overpriced, or needs more work than I'm willing to put in it. I've been around the 6.9 & 7.3 for years and know them fairly well, but I also know that around 250,000 miles the bodies starts to fall apart -and therein lies the reason I'm looking for something newer.
I pull an 18" travel trailer, and on occasion a 4 horse trailer during hunting season. Cover you keyboard so you don't spit coffee everywhere, but I've pulled this stuff with my V-6 Toyota -it just doesn't have the weight, brakes, mirrors, or cojones to be a good highway rig when so loaded. The old '69 could do it, but it's really a hay truck that's seen her better days: no P/S, no P/B, no nothing, just a cab and a box bolted to a V-8.
Thanx for your service,
