well i figured id share i just got back from my vaction to flordia.. orlando.. 2600 miles round trip i found it very intresting that my mpg was not steady tank to tank first tank was 18.5 then it droped to 17.3 then 17.5 but then on the way home i used 2 stroke oil and best tank was 19 but then it droped to 15.7 then 16.5 but after 19 mpg i started doing 80-85 but for the most paart i ddid 71-72 mph thought id let ya guys know.....
Speed really affects mileage on these. They seem to do very well below 70. Above 70 it drops rapidly. I ran 60-65 and got a little under 19. I would get about 17 running 70-75. 75-80, more like 15.5-16. One thing I notice is that when you start getting above 70, the boost starts to climb rapidly. At 70, I'm running about 4psi. At 80, it's more like 7 or 8. 85 it's like 10. That's why you take such a hit. Maintaining those speeds with our "bricks" takes a lot of power...
Yeah, like Joe said, speed kills the mpg. Keep those rpm's around 2000 or less and your milage will go up. Finding a line of truckers helps too (just dont follow too close) and they know all the good rest stops.
lol im not complaining i thought around 18 wasnt bad i figured it would be a littlebetter then my 94 idi but i guess it did because i got 16.7 on that with a 7.3 idi turbo 4.10 gear soo i guess it was better then that... i was pretty happy when i came home and saw diesel droped 10 cents by my house :-)! but those other posts got me wondering now about a slight viberation taking off?? only viberates till it hits 2nd gear its does what my 01 explorer did it and so did my 94 my 94 basecally stoped alot of it when i ddi the u joints.. but my new truck only has 90,000 miles i cant imagiane them being bad already>???
I would agree that 90k isn't a lot of miles but you probably have some salt used in the winter in MI. That can do a job on parts quite fast. I had to replace ball joints at 68k and the truck had just come from KC. U-joints would be an easy fix if that is the cause of the vibration.
yeah my ball joints are bad too i got to get to them and im putin a 6.0 tq converter in but u joints are easy soo how many of you had to do u joints less then 100,000 miles and i also have a clunk when from drive to reverse ...but when you watch theres no play i guess i gotta crawl under and feel its pretty rusted under there and on the driveshaft tho...
