Speed control throttle limit

We are the proud owners of a slightly used 200K+ mile 99 Expedition. I need a hint or 2 about how to limit the amount the throttle is opened by the speed control. My strong preferance is for the speed to drop a few mph rather than have the trans downshift and rev the H*&^ out of the motor just to maintain speed. Any thoughts?

This is a question no one has yet asked (to my knowledge) and to which there is no solution (to my knowledge).

Thanks, probably not the kind of question a performance related site would respond to but when I'm on the speed control I want smooth and quiet, if I want noisy and fast, I'll use my right foot. Also is an issue with the Gulfstream's V10.

Oh well.

I don't quite understand your question? You don't want the tranny do downshift?

The problem is the speed control pulls too much throttle on hills etc. Back in the vacuum actuated days I would build a limiter device say at about 1/4 throttle. External physical limiters don't seem to work with the computer controled devices. So I'm looking for alternatives. Some of our wizards out there probably understands where the speed control gets it's information and what it does with it. I just want to change it's mind a little. Simple eh?

computer controls

In a modern vehicle where a computer controls everything, probably not real simple. Now, you do not move a switch that turn on a light, or moves a window, ETC. You touch a sensor that sends a request to the body control computer, and the computer decides if it is appropriate to turn on the light, or move the window. Most current vehicles, there is not any physical connection between the gas pedal and the throttle body, or injector pump.
It might be possible to change the logic the cruise control uses for sensitivity to speed changes, but it probably would involve a trip to the Ford dealer, and an understanding mechanic, and the factory Ford code reader to make the changes.
I like driving with the cruise control. But in the hilly area where i live, I turn the cruise off, and just control speed the old fashioned way, with my foot. My vehicle is a 1996, still uses a cable from the gas pedal, to the throttle body.
I just tap the brake pedal, to disengage the cruise control. Hit the resume button after the hilly area.

Thanks. The next call will be to my cooperating dealer. Unfortunately I can't use the cruise around my place either for the same reason which is why this quest for information started. However the hills aren't that big and I will tolerate (welcome) a slight speed reduction instead of the noise/shifting issue.

Cruise control, personal gripe

My personal gripe about cruise control is that it will not work below 25 miles per hour.
I would like it to control 20 mph, so I could use it in school zones. In the good old days of manual transmissions, you could put the vehicle in the gear needed to drive 20 mph, and hold the engine at the same RPM, by listening to it, so you could watch for junior highers getting ready run across the street.

The owners manual in my '95 Dually says that the speed control will try to mantain the selected speed but when pulling a load up a hill, but it will disengage when the indicated speed is 14mph below the selected speed. I have noticed that it does not downshift as the speed bleeds off. Just drive it and see what it does. Or read your owners manual.
