Is anyone familiar with trailer jacks and how to repair them? I went to go hook up the trailer today and the jack wouldn't raise up anymore even though the handle was spinning. It is a Shelby coupler with a Shelby a-frame jack. I popped the top off of it and there are some gears in there and it looks like it worked fine on the bench.
sometimes the gears in the shaft (that raises and lowers it) get stripped out just from regular use. i see this all the time on boat trailers its just a good idea to replace the entire thing, replacement parts are damn near impossible to find! my dealer carries fulton brand jacks they seem to be really reliable. whatever you do dont buy one made in china!! it will last 1 season before it gets corroded and stops working (if the gears dont get stripped out first lol)
I bought a new one that morning before I left town and all they had was a top crank so I had to settle for that. What a pain in the butt with a v-nose trailer. I picked up a side crank yesterday and will take that other one back.
