I'm in the process of removing the fuel injection wire harness off of my 94 F150, and I'm having difficutlty in figuring how to disconnect the harness from the main fuse box. It's a large square connector that connects to the front side of the fuse box, and simply by looking at it I can't really tell what needs to be pried, pulled or pushed to disconnect it. I have another one that I'm going to replace it with and looking at it I still can't tell how the darn thing is clipped in. Any help would be much appreciated,
I think it may be bolted in from under the dash. You may have to unbolt the complete fusebox to get it all apart. I believe the plug you are looking at actually may be the rear of the fuse box.
You might be right that it's part of the fuse box assembly, but I may have confused the issue with using the term fuse box. There are more relays than fuses in this "black box", and it is in the engine compartment not in the cab under the dash. There is a wire harness that comes from the computer in the firewall to one side of this relay/fuse box assembly and the other side is the other wire harness that I'm trying to disconnect. The connectors on both side look almost identical.
Sorry, I do not know what to tell you. Last time I was really stuck(taking the steering column apart) I went to my local Ford dealer and asked the person at the service desk if I could ask one of the mechanics the best way to take it apart. They said sure, and pointed me to a guy that did most of their steering column work. He told me how I should go about doing it, and it worked. Maybe your local dealer is as friendly?
Thanks, I had that same idea myself. I think I'll swing by a dealership this afternoon and see if someone is willing to part some wisdom on me. With any luck it should be a one minute conversation which should save me from breaking the darn thing. If and when I find out I will put it in here as an FYI.
Dave, good call on the bolt. I took another look at my replacement harness and I noticed that on on the inside of the connector in the middle of it is a threaded hole. So, I went back to the assembly and the connector on the opposite side of goes through the entire assembly. I didn't notice it before as it is hard to see being on the backside and I didn't figure on a single bolt going through that entire thing. I wasn't thinking bolt at all so I completely over looked it.
Just wanted to say thanks for posting this question and commenting on the answer from Dave that helped you figure it out because you just saved me significant frustration.
