Ok my problem is that I have a 95 f250 reg cab lon box with 300, 000 km on it and everything still runs good, but rust is starting to set in on the fender and wheel wells up front and back. I was thinking of maybe replacing the box with a used Rebco loggers box if i can find one cheap. the front doesnt seem too bad i thnik just some rust inhibitor and paint would fix it fine but the rear wheel wells are rustin thru. wat do u all think of this and wat shld i look for with a new box... btw i got dual tanks\
thanks alot
You can either replace the bed with a new/used rust free one, get a bed like you were talking about or get patch panels. Im going to go with the patch panel route because i get them and have the bed looking decent for about $350ish. You can get patch panels at LMC Truck.
ya, the only thing with that is i dont have a welder or know anything about metal working so i was looking for a sorta bolt-on solution, i knwo itd be hard to find a rust free box for a good price though eh
I contacted them before about a bed and they said they dont ship anywhere because of to many people getting PO'd with dents and stuff but prices ranged from 800-1200 i think depending on condition
the guy at the body shop told me that to get the body work done there, they would cut metal out and weld new in, and it would cost me over $1000 so thats why I was thinking of just getting a replacement box instead,
Yea i think the guys at the body shop are full of chit. When i went and got an estimate they said 800 and it didn't sound like they were going to even cut the rust out, just glue the new panel on over top. No welding b/c they werent skilled enough to not warp the metal and would create extra work for themselves, i walked ....for $800 i'll buy a new bed or fix it myself.
6 bolts hold the bed on, I replaced mine in about an hour and a half with a used one I got from someone here on the board. Colors don't match but at least I can find my truck in the parking lot! (hood, doors and tailgate are white; fenders are blue & silver; bed is blue and white. The blues are 2 different shades and the whites are 3 different shades, yet all are factory colors!)
sounds like a good 'ol redneck truck if ya dont mind me sayin so TMF! thanks for the input guys i think i might ask around sound friends and work collegues to see if anyone has some weldin skills.
If you check out my gallery, I used the patch panels. I used a metal adhesive by 3M for some of the panels. Had a buddy weld in the cab corners. It wasn't too bad, but if had to do again, would weld all seams.
I even shot the paint myself. This is the first bodywork I have ever done. It's not a show truck, but it doesn't look half bad.

I got you beat. I have the same prob with my 94 sb w/ dual tanks. a body shop quoted me $2300 to do the rear. me and my dad thanked the guy for the quote, got in the truck, looked at each other and said "no Fing way" and ripped the quote up. this was the same shop that repaired the same truck for the same thing 4 years and 50,000 miles ago for only $500. oh how the times change. I'm prob just gunna go LMC route and do it myself.

couldn't have done a very good job the first time anyway
Most bodyshops won't garrantee rust repairs. It's almost impossible to remove all the rust that caused the problem to begin with. Also, due to design, the wheel arches will rust out again even if repaired properly.
When I cut my panels out, there was rust all up the back side of the inner bed panel, almost to the bed rail. No way to remove all that. I shot mine with some rust converter where I couldn't reach. Hopefully it holds out for awhile.
