CJ or CobraJet Fluid as I've heard it called, or something compatible (read label)... .
Not Type F.

HUH? no such thing. CJ is an API rating for diesel rated motor oil, NOT trans fluid.
Basically you can use Dextron II, or III, mercon or a synthetic if you so desire on a new rebuild (I wouldn't on a used trans unless you know it's a fairly new rebuild) Even the ones that do call for Type F can use the Dextron/mercon fluids especially if they have ever been rebuilt.
dip stick reads ESP-M2C138-CJ. Whats that mean?
Thanks
That's the stuff I was talking about, it's the only one that ends with CJ and a fellow I know been building transkissions for years calls it "Cobra Jet fluid". It's an easy way to remember it, and it's what I look for on the label on back in fine print as in compatible with.
I have always been told that "Type F" had an addative in it for the old abestos clutches Ford use to use in their transmission. We no longer use Abestos so when one is rebuilt and the old clutches are replaced you should no longer put Type F in it.
yeah thats what a guy told me when he was rebuilding my friends tranny that used type f. he said that after the rebuild he should no longer use it because it will have no clutches and stuff like that, and type f is no longer needed.
