As long as you have no O2 after the cat you are fine. The Exhaust reading at the O2 wont change with or without the cat on, as long as the O2 is before the cat. If you have O2's after the cat then the computer will think that the cat isnt working and will try to lean it out too much.
Seeing that I did the long tubes and no cats all at the same time, I did notice a power gain. But when i do put the cat back on for inspection I do fell that it loses a bit of power. Doesnt pull as hard. I have installed a few high flows from ebay for around 35 bucks or so and my friends have loved them. It did get alot louder with no cat.
Id get yourself a set of longtubes, then make the Y pipe and catback yourself. Here are pics of how I did mine. I have no cats but I can put them on when its inspection time. Made it that way. And my Y is more of a H pipe. On most of larger GVW trucks the exhaust was different, as thats y I have that flange part. But it should give you an idea. Conanski did a nice setup also. Hope he posts his link.
Here is my 02 sensor(stock location for my truck)
Here is my catted system, getto looking but passes.
Here are the headers, and the start of the H pipe
The flange and the DI/DO Flowmaster 40
Rest of the exhaust and the tips. 3.5 Stainless Steel, at a 45* angle
Have you had any issues with the exhaust heating the tranny (I have a similar setup with flowtechs and they almost touch the trans. pan)
I had to notch the collector flang as it was hitting the pan, it doesnt hit with it notched. I dont think I have had trans fluid problems, as I change it every season caus I plow. So I dont get much miles on the fluid. And the Shift kit also helps.
Yea, you like the flex pipe? It worked well, and it dont leak, I dont have a bender, or was trying to make real pipe work with cut angles and everything. My friends welder was also out of gas when we finished the importaint stuff, so i was like f-it, im using this. Held up for 3 years now I think.
The only part I've been wondering if I should use that on is going over the rear axle... The rest of my exhaust is pretty straight and doesn't require much angling at all.
