Twice while driving down the highway, my truck has done this slamming. Not sure how else to describe it, but it's like if you were to do a nuetral slam. I can duplicate it if I slip the gear selector to N for a split second.
I'm thinking, MLPS. Am I on the right track?
Trans was rebuilt almost 40k miles ago without a hitch since.
Truck info in signature.
I don't know about your tranny, but the E4OD had this problem. Ford called it a false nuetral. Usually cured by changing the MLPS. Sometimes, just the plug or wiring can cause the problem.
Good Luck Frank
That is what I was thinking. I read the download at fordfuelinjection. They say it is common on all the ford trans. The way they describe the false neutral, just not sure if it is the same as what I am experiencing. Just want to get some real world input from you guys.
I've had a similar problem with my 91 E4OD I-6
It would do that 3 times after every shift, felt very brutal.
I took my truck to the local ford dealer and they said they adjusted the "TP Range Sensor" I have no idea what that is I know it wasn't the throttle position sensor they only messed with the tran,s cost about 300$ ! (Cheaper than a new trans though)
Never shifted like that again though, and shifts much better than when I got it (smoother) I'd still like to know what that was though... I know they were inside the transmission.
Good luck with yours!
