As has been mentioned in this forum previously, the casting number tells the original vehicle line the casting was destined for, but usually the part is used in other applications also. Thus this casting number is found in the 1978 Mustang II and even marine engine blocks, and probably many others, besides the Lincoln coded by the "V" as the third digit.
The 7615 is probably 7G15, which would be a casting date code. It signifies July 15th, 1977. This is an early date for 1978 production.
Since there was a new 302 casting for 1979 (D9OE-6015), the D8VE is probably a one year type.

I know this thread is an old one, but that block is basically the same casting as the 289 Hi-po and the Mexican 302 block. The Suffix should read A3A for these two. The 3A suffix with this casting number is the same block, but with the std main caps.
