In my particular situation I just don't wish to have seperate/more lights. On a 58 this would be a look I personally wouldn't want. But its like ice cream. Some people like chocolate and some strawberry. Its just a matter of personal preference. My 58 is a big "flat back end" type truck. Its a styleside and I would prefer to keep just the two tailights. Thanks for your comments. Tom
Oh, its a styleside!!! That makes a world of difference! You sure do not want extra lights sticking out from your bed!

The way your signals are working suggests that you have a short between the two rear signal wires. If you have the brake switch connected to the lights along with the signal wires that would cause the problem.

I'll check that out Craig. To my knowledge, I don't have the brake switch connected to the same bulb filament as I do the tailights. Unless I've somehow made a mistake and I'll double check or I'm just misunderstanding overall what I've done. That's a possibility. I'm defining tailights to mean the bulbs in the rear that come on when one turns on the headlights. What I do have is a seperate wire from the headlight switch to the left and right rear two filament bulbs. That lights up just one of the two filaments in each of the two rear tailights. The second filament of those two bulbs remain off. And secondly I have a wire that starts at the turn signal switch on the column and runs to the brake pedal brake switch(brakes on side of the switch). That's a single wire that is a part of the turn signal itself. And secondly I have a pair of wires originating again at the turn signal switch itself and with one to the left rear and one to the right. These two wires splice into the two left and right rear brake wires that turn on the "other" filament in the two filament bulbs. Its my understanding that the brake and turn signals share this common wire and filament-somehow-I guess its a part of how the switch functions with the one wire from the turn switch itself which as I previously mentioned runs solo to the "on" side of the brake switch plunger.

Hi,

This may help go to www.clubfte.com/users/earl/r...e_material.html.

Then look at truck wiring diagrams

Thanks everyone. Its WORKING!!! Alright! Are you all as tired as me? You probably are. I finally gave up. Took it out. Put it on the shelf and went on line and ordered a replacement from Ron Francis Wire works. Ten minutes later as I set thinking about something totally unrelated--it all came to me and was crystal clear-I had no doubt. I could do it!! I put all back and wired it up. My mistake was that I was leaving the brake wire that runs to the rear brakes attached to my brake switch. One can't do that and I eventually saw it all. The way it works is the the turn signal switch will send the message to your brakes-as it gets the signal from your brake switch as you depress the pedal, and when you turn the signal lever for a turn-the switch will then discontinue sending a signal for braking etc. and send the appropriate flashing signal to the correct side etc. I hope this is understandable. Fortunately I have two F1's awaiting my "magic"(I feel for them) touch so I'll just put the soon coming aftermarket switch in the "next" buildup box. Thanks for all your help. Good luck Tom.
