Early shifting???

Does anyone have a clue why I would be making too much pressure in an AOD tranny. I think it's causing the thing to shift WAY to early. Does that make sense? The manual says I sould be somewhere around 60 in neutral and I'm over 80 psi...all the other gears are high as well. Any insight is appreciated.

I dont know how the AOD is but many transmissions with electronic controls have a "fail safe" mode that they default to when there is a fault with the electronics. Normally the fail safe is for the pressure to go high so the transmission stays lubricated and the temps are lower.

The AOD is not electronic. It uses a cable from the throttle body to set it's pressures. If the pressure is wrong the shift schedule is wrong and the shift pressures are wrong, which often leads to burned clutches and bands.

If that is the case then I would check the throttle position cable and adjust it as necessary. With the old dodge 45re and 46re transmissions it was common to find the throttle position cable out of adjustment.
