Dash Lighting Issues

I do apologize, as I am not sure how to post a picture of what I am talking about, so I will be as descriptive as possible.

I have a 1978 Ford F100 with the 300 - 6. Not sure if that matters. Basically, non of the ten or so dash lights are working. I'm not sure if they are on the same circuit, if that circuit is in series or parallel, but one of the bulbs is burnt black and none of them will light up.

I've checked the fuse and it appears to be fine.

Any suggestions? I'm working on gettting a bulb to replace the black one, so if that will fix it, then I'm sorry to be wasting your time.

Thanks.

Are you asking about the small light bulbs that light up your instrument panel and other accessories when you turn your lights on?

If so, even if you have one out the rest should still work. Sound like you may have a problem with your light switch or not getting voltage supplied to the lights

check your grounds and a use a voltage tester to see it your getting power to them. it a big printed circit baord behing the cluster. there is also a regulator on there also. just make sure you have a good solid ground and power goint to it first.

I'm still not entirely clear which lights you are referring to. If it is the ones that illuminate the instruments, the above should take care of it. It's easy to drop out the cluster and examine it.

But if you are talking about all the others, like high beam indicator, turn sig indicators, etc., you might have several small problems. More detail would help.

all your cluster lighting goes through the printed circuit shown here

all dash illumination is through the Blue/red striped wire. No other colour

The circuit originates from the headlight switch blue/red wire then branches of 4 directions from a junction, One of them is tied into the cluster connector 14 or 18 pin.

Contacts get corroded and prevent power from illuminating the bulb

see white corrosion below

Wow, thanks so much for the information. I cannot believe how much response this info request has garnished. I am looking into the voltage regulator, as that appears to be the most viable initial troubleshooting step. I will definitely let you know as soon as I do, but I won't be able to get back behind the dash for a few days.

Thanks for the help.

Dennis correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the voltage regulator is just for the gauges, not the lights.

Correct, the ICVR only pulses power for making the gauges work.

That photo was to show the OP that the circuit board is what powers the cluster lighting.

Thank you gentlemen. I'll look a little closer at the board. There might be a problem there that I'm missing. I'll let you know in a couple of days when I'm able to take it out again.
