We're really liking our new-to-us, previously-enjoyed, 2005 E350. We're planning to do some towing with it. The v10 makes me smile. But, we're wondering, aside from the heavy duty frame, what other things are different between an E350 and an E150. We've got a general idea, but specifically, what other components are different? Anyone know off hand?
Axles and brakes. No V10 in the E150, no oilburner either.
What else is there?
Traditional E150 rides a bit better, has P-rated XL car tires (41 lbs of air) through 2007. Few hundred pounds less weight from the lighter axles, frame, and springs.
The 2008 E150 is now an 8-lug E250 "lite", so the 150 is pretty much gone except in name, probably because it was so easy to load one up waay over the GVW and break things (read warranty costs). This will hurt the conversion van/Club Wagon market, which is pretty small these days anyway.
I think the payload range is like 3300 for a 150, 3600 for a 250, up to 4100 for a 350 for 2008, so the 150/250/350 names are kind of silly to maintain any more. GVW on the 150 is now over 8500, so all the new vans are immune from the EPA mileage ratings....which may have been another reason for the change--get more of the big stuff out of the CAFE averages.
