Need to clean motor

I pulled a 300 I6 out of an old farm truck yesterday.
Gonna re-build it.
The motor is home and on my engine stand.
It's caked in oil.
I was wondering if anyone has any tip's for cleaning it up.
Didn't want to take it to a car wash with it in the back of my truck.

Scrape off as much of the heavily caked-on grease as you can. Then spray the engine down really good with some engine degreaser(oven cleaner will work too, if you can stand the smell). Let it sit for a little while so that the degreaser can do its' job. Then get some old rags and start wiping the grease off. You can also spray some degreaser directly on to a rag, and wipe off the really heavy grease deposits that way.

those little electric pressure washers work well for around the house and shop.
I had a gas powered one until the pump went, then I found a electric one on sale
it works great for cleaning engines, I use it all the time
and yes oven cleaner works good for heavy grease, but it is very caustic and you don't want to use it on any polished aluminum or nicely painted parts

That would work extremely well, and I do have one.
The problem is,there is 2 ft. of snow still on the ground here,
and I don't want to do it in my driveway.
I was going to take it to the car wash, but that would have filled the
back of my truck up with old oil

B52 engine degreaser works pretty good. I like oven cleaner also. If youre going to rebuild it, dawn liquid soap works wonders. Wash it like you'd wash a car. I use a stiff brush to clean the grime off.

I never would have thought of using Dawn soap.

I think I'm gonna need a big tub when I do this.
What a mess it's gonna be.

ya know I really dont understand what you want us to say?
we gave you ideas on how to do it but you dont want to get
your truck or your driveway dirty,
but you have no problem trashing a self serve car wash where others will get into it
and have to clean up the mess you leave behind

300s are awsome motors. Probably one of the most under rated engines Ford or anyone has ever built. For less than $1000 you can double the factory hp!

All the tip's that have been given to me, are what I wanted to hear.
I'm not about to take an extremely dirty engine to the car wash and wash it in the back of my truck.Would you?Oil would be all over it.
If the engine was under the hood,it's alot easier to contain the mess, and rinse the engine compartment. It's verey simple to pull the truck ahead when finished, and clean up the wash bay.
As far as pressure washing it in my driveway-I have children, dog's and people do come and visit, that gunk will get tracked everywhere.
I'm not afraid to get my driveway dirty,I just want to be able to control the size of the mess. You know what happen's when thing's get pressure washed.

sorry that came out harsher then it was meant?
I was paying attention to the little one as I was typing
what I was trying to get across is there is ways to contain it
I have dogs and kids too, I just make sure they are not out there when I'm doing it.
I also do it off in a spot where it easily contained
put up a plastic containment area
some times things don't come out like I think they are?????

rsalter66,
no hard feeling's here, but you did make feel like I had to explain myself a bit.LOL.
The suggestion's made are what I was looking for.I have the motor on the engine stand now,I will do a little scraping, spray it with engine cleaner and wipe it down.
Once I get the motor tore down I can clean the part's up individually really well.
