What RPM do you normally cruise at?
Is most of your driving open road or city type driving?
And last question for now, are you in flat country or mountains?
Most of my tire diameters are for mud tires, which are usually a bit larger.
1800 RPM with a ZF 5 in overdrive on 235/85-16 tires should be running about 63 MPH with 3.55 gears.
12 MPG sounds a little low with that setup.
Is the truck 4x4 or a dually?
Do you still have the stock bed on it?
A little more info about the truck would help with possible problems.
Like a 4x4 sits up higher, catches more wind and weighs more with more moving parts.
So 4x4 MPG is usually a bit lower that a 2 wheel drive truck will see.
How many miles on the engine?
Do you know if the IP or injectors have been replaced?
Do you see much black smoke out the exhaust?
Try realy working the truck hard for a few days long trips up big hills and realy get into the throtle. I just went from Vegas to Phoenix and back last week end and now I have more fule come thursday than normal with more millage than normal for a week. Most of my diving is city 10 miles to work ten miles back. then going to the store bank and things like that I rarely hit the highway unless I'm gong out of town because of where I live. Short trips in town are hard on diesels and will bring millage down if you don't work the truck once in a while.
This is assuming there isn't something wrong like excesive smoke or ebrake sticking. What sise tires are you running are they properly inflated? Is your truck running hot enough?
