Back in the summer I noticed my 96 302 F150 was over-heating. Not much but in the 80k I've owned it (now at 160k), it never deviated-dead center off the NORMAL. So I decided that it was time to give the old girl a rad flush and new thermostat. I know my way around the shop, and don't usually make mistakes. When I finished my engine ran in the beginning of NORMAL, which then made me think that was where it was supposed to sit. Now I have changed the thermo. again as it never warmed up(its about 0 deg Farenhietaround here) any ideas as to what may have happened here? Thermo in backwards this time? Last thermo was faulty.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Jan-03 AT 12:34 PM (EST)]I have owned two ford 302's. One in a 79 F100 and my current 92 F150
neither has had a "good" heater. I had to block the radiator on the 79 to defrost the windsheild. I have put in 3 Tstat's in the 92,a new gauge sender and a water pump and it still reads about "O" in normal. I had a 95 F150 with a 351 and it had a great heater so I dont think its the heater core.

What temp thermostat did you install. I made the mistake of putting a 180 tstat in my 86 Mustang. That bugger runs rather cool, too cool. If the cooling system is in good repair, your best bet is a 195 thermostat.
I like to install a 180 degree thermostat and straight water in the late spring and then switch to a 210 degree thermostat and an antifreeze mix in the fall for my 289. It's not that much extra work and helps keep the radiator and heater core clear of buildup.
