iv got an 89 chevy k1500 i put an 50,000 mile chevy 350 in it and then shortly after that the transmision went out, first i lost reverse then about 2 miles later i lost all forward gears as well. so now i have a truck with a rebiult motor and a bad trans. best quote i got is 1600 for a rebiuld, i realy dont want to stick another 1600 into this truck, its a nice truck but its an 89, but if i dont fix it i doubt ill get much for it if i sell it with a bad trans. anyone know these transmsions and have an idea what is wrong with it and if it could be repaired without a compleet rebiuld. there wasent any noises or anything when it went out stoped at a stoplight and hit the gas when it turned grean and it dident go anywhere when i hit the gas, its an 700r4 trans. i know this isent the proper fourm for this but none of the chevy fourms iv been to are anyhelp for anything
Did you set the TV cable?
The cable sets the line pressures.
Bill
yes the tv cable is set, but even if the tv cable wasent hooked up at all it should still move just shifts would all be wrong. i can put it in any gear and it wont do anything, somtimes if i rev it with it in gear as the rpms are droping back down after letting off the gas it will try to move a tiny bit but not even an inch

You state first 50k motor installed. Then state rebuilt motor?
Bill
the motor was rebiult 50,000 miles ago and was in a rusty blazer that i had and i swaped the motor into the chevy k1500 so its 50,000 miles on a rebiult motor
i was thinking maby an internal leak to, but it is pumping, the trans fluid leval drops when the engin is started, wich would indicate that it is pumping

If the fluid is not burnt i would dig deeper.
I would run air tests to find if its a leak.
The TV will set line pressures.
If to low you could burnup the trans.
Bill
ITA with Bill, if the TV cable isn't set just right you will toast the tranny. Some of them are really picky on the setting, but that may be the newer ones I think.
I have a 700r4 in my Vette and haven't hurt it....yet, and I beat the crap out of it. (500+HP) no lock up converter.
If I recall in my research on earlier toy's its a relatively cheap tranny at junk yard and most you find will be good very few bad. I bet that's alot cheaper than rebuilding anything

trans fluid is not burnt, how do you a air test? and the tv cable was in corectly set for a couple days, but then i properly adjusted it and it ran fine for the next 3-4 monthes after that till it fell on its face one day. i too am leary about a junk yard trans, it would suck to buy a trans for 4-500 just to have it be toast as well
