Buy a carter lifetime pump and install it anyway. I changed mine out at 150k even though it was still working.
Everything breaks eventually, why push the limits and have it fail when you least expect it.
That's why I have over 305000 miles on my truck and it runs like new.
Anyway,
Remove the output hose at the filter and stick the hose in a bucket. If it's working the fuel will pump into the bucket as soon as you turn the key to ON.
im not to sure, but if there is a relay which says AUTO SHUT DOWN RELAY besides the one for the fuel pump try checkin eng. bay on the fuse panel it should say which one it is maybe that one got jumped & wont power nothing at all even the pump itself its a shot try it out ... should say something AUTO...not really sure but check that one as well...give feedback
Also, be aware there is an fuel shut off switch that might need to be flipped. The location should be listed when you open up your hood, on the label if you're truck is like mine...
Fuel pump relay is in the power distribution box under the hood, 14N089 type relay. You should have more than one of this relay there since it is used for more than one function, you can try swapping them around to see if any thing changes. The 14N089 is the sales base number, but the relay will have a 14B192 engineering base number on it. Don't know for sure which one the EVTM I have for my 97 doesn't give the exact location. Good luck.
does anybody know what fuse is for the fuel pump? 98 4.2l v6 4x4
The fuel pump fuse is a 20A Maxi fuse in the power distribution box under the hood of the truck. If you look at the box with all of the relays on the right, the fuel pump fuse (#19) is the top one on the far left. BTW, the fuel pump relay is the third one from the top on the right side. Good luck!
turn on the igniton switch, open the fuel cap...have a buddy listen for the fuel pump to kick in while you are giving the underside of the fuel tank a tap with a rubber mallet..if the pump engages and then kicks out, time to replace it
