Scary Problem
Yesterday, as I'm coming through the toll booth entering the turnpike, I have to cut across about six lanes to get to the entrance ramp. I stomp the accelerator pedal on my 2005 F350 PSD to the floor. As I get to the entrance lane I lift off. Pedal stays on the floor - WOT. I kick the pedal a couple of times. Nothing. I'm starting to get a little too close to the car in front of me so I stomp the brakes and watch the boost gauge go into the red. For a split second I consider throwing it into neutral and shutting the engine off, but I tried that once as a test in a parking lot and the almost immediate loss of power steering and brakes isn't a good thing. As I'm reaching for the key to kill the engine I hear a clunk and the accelerator pedal pops up.
I've checked the pedal assembly and everything looks fine. Clean, no binding, works smoothly, no mats to hang up on - I can't duplicate the problem.
Has anyone else ever had a similar problem?
