well I have gas tanks galore. the stock one behind the seat. and then 2 aftermarket humungous ones under the bed. i have no idea if they work or not but i did a visual inspection underneath and everything appears to be hooked up and hose clamps and whatnot are all nice and tight and dialed in. i tried shining a flashlight inside to see in there but that didnt work out, lol. maybe i need a match!
i am LAZY. and i have no idea if they are all rusted and nasty on the inside or not. is it totally necessary to take them off and rinse them out? or can i get away with some other easier method and still leave them on the truck?
i am making a 3400 mile trip here pretty soon and these things are seriously gonna come in handy.
Install a clear lens inline filter coming out of the tank, add 5 gal of gas and run off of one. You will find out what condition it's in, either by plugging a filter or leaking on the pavement. At least with this way you will have a good tank to switch to when the filter plugs up. Do one at a time. If full of rust you will need to drop clean and seal/coat.
Ya, like blue says....get a handful of plastic see thru filters and take with you. Install one for each tank and watch if they fill up with grit. Cheap and "easy" LOL!
My '64 Galaxie had issues with rust, it took a couple years and a few of those filters to finally get rid of all the rust. Car sat(outside) for a number of years previous to my purchase.

Ford cars from 1961 thru 1979 and trucks with factory under bed auxillary tanks (1967/79) have a plastic meshed filter screen on the pickup tube: D1AZ-9A011-A / Sold by Ford and most parts stores.
The Galaxie gas tanks (1960/64) (except wagons) have been reproduced.
brandon! me and gorilla joe are bouncin out in june but not without a wig splitting beer bonging peace disturbing extravaganza beforehand.
blue68, thanks i'll give that a shot, but i am confused about the leaking on the pavement, i understand about the clogging of the filter but what would cause leakage?
bill thanks, you split my wig every time! but i dont think they are stock ones, they are huge, must be 25 gallons and have a logo stamped on them but i am stuck out on this floating city at the moment
