Rust in exhaust

Rust in exhaust
Can anyone give me any tips on how to get rid of the rust build up inside the exhaust right at the exit point. The dual exhaust is in front of the right rear tire. 2005 f-150 5.4. Any help fellow members is appreciated.

Well that depends on where it is coming from. Is it the tip itself? If it is, there is nothing you can do aside from try to keep it clean and dry, the tip will eventually rot out. If it is migrating from somewhere else in the exhaust system, you can not do a whole lot other than to either replace those components with stainless steel, or to drive longer distances to ensure that the system heat up enough to boil off any condensation.

You can remove the rust and paint the inside of the tip with some Duplicolor header paint in the "Aluminum" color. It will take high heat (1200 F) and last a while.
Or you could cut the pipes shorter and weld on stainless exhaust tips.

Yeah it's hard to keep the tips nice. You just have to clean them a lot of and dry them when they get wet. But if you spray paint them every once and a while they will last longer, and it may slow the rusting process.
