Brake Help

Howdy Gang,

This is my first post. I really appreciate a place to get advice from users who have already been down the road before.

Background: I pull a very large horse trailer and am close enough to GCVW that I don't let my wife take the big suitcase.

My Rig: 03' 350, 4X4, SRW, 6.0, Crewcab, Shortbox, Airbags, B&W gooseneck hitch.

My problem/question: I am at 75K miles and it's time to replace the brakes. OEM has worked OK I guess, but I am considering aftermarket rotors (slotted & drilled) and pads (ceramic?) to improve braking performance. As I mentioned, everything works like it was designed, but I wonder if the upgrade would make a significant difference?

I am not able to go to all shows with the wife and I want the best set-up available for this truck. I realize this much weight will never brake like a Ferrari, and she knows how the transmission works (love that feature) and is a good driver (a Ford maniac too - you guys would be proud), but before I spend money changing something that has worked OK in the past I wanted your opinions.

I realize I probably should have gotten a dually, but hey this is my daily driver and between parking hassles, the occasional mild off road adventure, icy winters and needing a larger garage door, I just didn't want 6 turnin'.

Anyone upgraded rotors and pads with good success? Any installation tips, potential problems to watch for, or just thoughts about my stuation?

There are a lot of posts on upgrading the brakes. One of the more commonly recommended setups is Powerslot(or Powerstop, I'm not 100% sure) cryo rotors and Hawk pads. One important thing is to make sure the caliper slide pins get cleaned and lubed, probably a good time to flush the brake lines too so you have all new fluid in the system.

Use the Powerslot cryo rotors and Hawk LTS brake pads. We have them on our F250(SRW) with pickup camper that also pulls our horse trailer. They work VERY well. The key to them working properly is to "bed them in " immediately after installation according to the directions included with the pads.
