Oil and filter change interval

I gave my 78 F250 an oil change shortly after I got it last year. Since then it's spent most of it's time sitting idle since it's not a daily driver truck and it doesn't do well in the winter anyway. Now that spring has sprung it's time for it to shake off the dust and be active again and I'm wondering if I should change the oil again. As far as distance travelled it's probably only been a few hundred kilometers since the last change but it's been about 7 months or so. I use Rotella 15W-40, think it will have deteriorated or anything in that time? Just wondering if I should be changing the oil every 3 months whether the truck has moved alot or not.

I personally would change it, seeing that condensation can build up just sitting, and seeing I don't have an oil temp gage, you never really know if the oil runs above 212 Deg. F to ever really boil it off.

That's what I thought, just wondered if it was a myth created by Mr. Lube or something. Thanks.

I don't change the oil before storage in the winter but I do change it as soon as I take it back out. Sitting all winter or limites use causes alot of condensation in the oil system. I also don't start my engine at all during winter but I do roll it over with the coil unhooked till I get oil pressure at least monthly, this keeps condensation from forming in the engine and exhaust system. As far as intervals go every 3000miles is a good standard to go by.

In a crunch ?

It is always more important to change the filter,...than the oil.

My truck sits most of the winter and I change it like in dec and then in probably april.I put maybe 4000 miles on it during the summer and I have no condensation problems.I personally don't believe the 3000 miles or 3 months change.

Where is it stored ? If it's not subjected to, to much temp change it shouldn't have a condensation problem
Just a thought

I go by the rule 3000 miles for reg oil or 5000 for syn. Either way I change the oil every six months to get acids out of the case that build up. Plus, oil tends to breakdown because of those acids and contaminates. Even if you only put on 1000 miles in that period of time. Oil changes are cheaper than a tank of gas now so it's a safe and good practice to get into.

I don't believe in every three months. Then again I have many cars so I'd always be under one just changing oil everyday if that was the case. No really, I have a spreadsheet with date and mileage of last oil change and other important maintenance info so I don't forget to do one of my task and screw up something. ;-)

I always check oil level with at least every other gas fill.
