Can anyone tell me where to buy the moldings that divide the two colos on the side of a 78-79 f-150. I seem to find the upper pieces but not the ones that go down and around the fenders.
I bought my upper trim pieces fairly cheap via ebay. They have some overspray on them with is easily removed. The lower section trim is way too expensive on ebay. I bought the pieces via Mike's truck salvage for a great price. I forget how much I paid. Search the name on search engine, he's also a sponsor here. He does have a website. I think he's in South Carolina.
The upper side mouldings with the blackvinylinsert on the fender, door and cab corner are the same whether you have race track mouldings or not.
When race track mouldings are present, the upper quarter panel (bed side) moulding is different (curved on the end) because the vertical connection moulding = D7TZ-9929396-AA R/S / D7TZ-9929397-AA L/S from the lower quarter panel moulding attach to it.
Right on. There's two lower moulding/trim styles availlable. One style of trim was completely low to edge of the fenders, doors etc... about a foot wide. The other style is a foot from the bottom, a little thinner than the upper trim height.
Note: There are Ad's in the classifieds that have this trim listed.
Even if the set has to be pieced together, parts from all over North America .. it is a lot cheaper than new from DC.
Any tips or tricks for attaching race track trim? My 76 F250 did not come with it, but I want to add it and the ebay trim I bought did not come with the attaching clips.
I see I can buy them on LMC, but that rivet detail looks difficult. Should I just drill 1/2" holes and use the punch-in type, or is there some other trick?
I was afraid someone might suggest that. I was thinking it, but I was fearful of getting a bunch of purist restoration experts breathing down my neck. I had the thought of piloting and countersinking some holes right through the rubber and aluminum (I'm a carpenter) and then using some nice two inch, black epoxy coated screws. I did check LMC. Nice site, but everything there requires the sale of my first born. The race track molding clips are cheap enough though. I just didn't want to mess with braising rivets, and I don't think they make a glue that is up to the job for this application. Any more tips are appreciated, I'll cogitate on the screws!
