Hey I saw on another post our F1's have a 114" wheelbase.
I have a 94 Ranger that has a 114" wheelbase.
Just wondering has anybody on here used a newer Ranger frame under the old F1's?
IM not doing this or planning on a frame swap. IM just curious and would like to see whats been done.
I haven't done it myself but the PO on my '48 put it on a '94 ranger frame. He never had the fenders on or anything else that matter. but the cab seemed to mount right on pretty good. Im pretty sure these old trucks will mount on anything if you really want them to, just depends on how much work your willing to do to make it work.
Have a great day
oLDGREEN51, I worked out of Dayton for many years and was wondering how i missed seeing you out running around because I always notice another 51 on the road---Garry
Well, I have a buddy who started on a 51 Merc about a year ago..he used a 302 C-4 with a 50 F-1 front sheetmetal.
He also chopped the top 3" and channeled the cab over the frame about the depth of the rails. The bed floor has to be raised about 6 to 8 in. because Ranger frames have a much higher kickup over the rear end.
As soon as the snow melts I'll be at his place to grab a bumper for my 51. I'll be sure to take my camera along when I do...
Yes, there's a local guy driving an F1 with a 4x4 Ranger frame. If you're not looking for it, passing by on the highway, you'll never know it was a frame swap. He has a plow mounted on it, too. Since I moved on to another place to work, I never got the chance to look at it up close.....we worked at the same place back in the late 90's.
