Rear end

my 65 rear end is pretty shot...will run me about 500 to rebuild....
I have a 64 rear end ....seems ok....both 9 inch rear ends.

however...Im wondering if there are not any modern options that a salvage yard may have that would be a bolt on option with little or no modification...and offer something better than my 65...

the engine is a 5.0 and its backed with a c6 tranny.

i am sure i will be corrected by others on here but i do believe that up to 72, the rear ends are interchangable but i think after 72, the framerails got wider so the spring perches on the axle will be off.

also, from my understanding, in the late 60's early 70's, how the 9inch was built is different. from my understanding, the axle in my truck(64 f100 2wd), the axle tubes are butt welded to the center section but with later 9 inch axles, the tubes are inserted in the center section and then welded. adds strength to the axle tubes and housing in general. so i have been led to believe. dont know if that helps or not and like i said, others will chime in and give some more info.
