I am very new to this site, and I am not sure if I am posting in the right place. I need a little help. My driver's side door ajar light is popping on and off. I was told that I need a new door latch. I really don't want to have the dealership fix it, they are ridiculously priced, besides I have someone to do it for me. I wanted to know since my interior lights stay on when the door light is on, which is all of the time, if there is a fuse or something I can do to get them to turn off. I don't want my batteries to be drained, but I don't want them to fix it. I have more time to be away from my home, and I need to make sure that it starts up when I leave work. Any suggestions? Please help me.
I had same problem,I took the relay out of fuse box rather than fix the door switch .If you look in youre owners manual under fuses it will trll you which one to take out.The only drawback to this you wont have cab dome light when sometimes neede in the dark.
Thank you very much. I just picked the truck up from the dealership and they told me to turn the dome light switch all the way down. They said there was no fuse or anything to remove for a quick fix. I am not too worried about not having those lights on considering as soon as you turn the headlights on I have red lights under all of my seats. Must be a girl thing. Not having the lights is not all that bad, I guess my only concern would be with having the switch turned all the way down, I can't see my dash. Have to deal with that another time. Glad I am not the only one. Thanks again.

Get some good quality electrical connection cleaner and hose out the latch/switch assembly. Give the door(s) in question a few good cycling's (slam them good) after the cleaning. The switch should be responding now... Next, use a little dielectric geese to lubricate the assemblies that you can reach. This is a very common issue and rarely requires a replacement.

I think your service guy may be into the glue ... Check your owners manual for exact information.
Where would I find some of that cleaner at. This is a girl you are talking too, I am really stupid when it comes to this stuff. I can do certain things, but I will admit that when it comes to purchasing different things, I just walk into the auto store and tell them the vehicle I have and what needs to be done. Thanks for the help.

Nope... Girls are smart; They ask questions!
You get it at the auto parts store, or Radio Shack--places like that. Ask for electrical contact cleaner. The fast drying type is the very best! Learn how it works by clicking this link.
Dielectric grease is available in the same places (maybe not Radio Shack). The two items will cost you $18.00 to $20.00, but it'll last you a long time.
Use a tightly wound Q-tip to put the dielectric geese into the latch. Too much is bad, you want to use enough to keep things working smoothly without gumming it up and getting it all over you when you get in and out of the truck...
You're any Army Sister... I'm an Army Dad! Thank your sibling (brother? sister?) for their service to our country for me, OK?
I will have to try this stuff tonight. To ozx3+1, I will definitely tell my brother you say thank you. When he gets home from Iraq. Tell your son or daughter that my whole family thanks them too.
I will have to make a stop tonight and see what I can find. What happens if that doesn't work, what would you guys suggest after trying this?
Do you have the owners manual and the supplements related to your truck? You'll need them to ID the fuse... If all else fails, pull the fuse. The line fed to you about turning the dimmer down will not work, however the truck is smart... The light SHOULD only stay on for something like 10 minutes if the door is left open, right? With a stuck switch, the truck "thinks" that the door is open, hence 10 minutes of dome light on with the door closed...
The Soldier is my son, and I'll let him know what you said We like you!!
I have tried everything with this darn door. When I got back to work from picking it up, the door ajar light was not on, and the dome light was off. I can't depend on that every day, I have a certain place to be after work at a certain time, and can't be worrying about the truck starting. HAHA. I am going to stop and get some of this stuff you are telling me about and see if that works. Cross your fingers. By the way, we have almost identical trucks. Do you have the 6 or 8 foot bed?
I have the 8 foot bed, pleny of room for the quad with the toolbox in the back. I am guessing the picture that pops up with your post is your truck. Very sharp looking truck. Maybe one day mine will have some more stuff done to it, right now I am too busy thinking about getting an addition to my garage done just to park it in there, poor thing has to sit outside all of the time. I hate it. We like you guys too.
