4 Inch Exhaust ???

I am thinking about the 4 inch exhaust mod. I f I decide to spend the money what can I expect to gain from this? Is it worth the $550.00 price tag to have it done?

Since this is pretty diesel-specific, I'm going to go ahead and move this to the 7.3L section, David.

The main benefit of going to a more free-flowing exhaust is lower EGTs. You can remove the stock muffler and probably get by okay that way, but stepping right to a 4" system is probably best. I don't think it's worth $550, though... you can get a 4" system for cheaper than that if you shop around a bit.

Some guys go for 5" cannons. Or stacks.

Do you have gauges already so you can monitor your EGTs? Shouldn't be an issue but if you add fuel through a chip/etc. or tow heavy, they're a must.

Thanks Ryan for moving it. Sorry for posting in the wrong section.

The $550.00 is installed, is that still too much?

Several site sponsors sell 4" exhausts... check up top in the Sponsors List. MBRP, Dieselsite, ITP Diesel are a few that come to mind right away.

Ebay is another option, and several members here have setups from Mark (MKO Exhaust) on ebay... his 5" setup is popular. A bit cheaper than the big name stuff, also.

If you decide to install it yourself you can always post here and the guys will be glad to help. It's a fairly straight-forward job.

Which of the 4 in. exhausts are the quietest. I would like to open the exhaust, but I don't want the obnoxiously loud noise.

From what I have read, Magnaflow tends to be on the queit side, where MBRP tends to be a bit throatier. It's the mufflers that do it... the rest of the system is pretty much the same between brands assuming they're all mandrel bent.

So if you're wanting to go straight pipe, it doesn't really matter, but if you will use the muffler, Magnaflow might be a good option. Banks is another that I think has a sort of "quietish" reputation.

I wouldn't worry too much about the loudness. It's going to be pretty loud regardless. Even the stock exhausts on these trucks are loud. If you've ever had one zoom past you on the interstate then you know what i'm talking about.
