thats funny. my stock one worked like a champ so i decided to use a cheesy aftermarket gauge that doesnt even light up at night, and it only works half the time.
theres a little nipple on top of the intake manifold between the carburetor and distributor. in there is a sensor and the wire runs right up to the gauges. either you have a bad wire, bad sensor, or bad gauges. but either way it should be a cheap easy fix.
Try ground the wire on the sensor. If the needle moves, you have a bad sensor or bad connection on the connector.
If the needle doesn't move, you have either a bad wire or a bad gauge.
My gauge broke internally. There is a small coil of very thin wire that snapped. I plan to use autometer gauges in the near future so mine is staying broken!
