Hub Question

What is the puprpose of the hubs having AUTO and LOCK. If it auto-locks then why even have the other setting. Also I just got this truck and the lettering is all gone from my hubs. If i'm not mistaken, i should turn both of them all the way to the left to be in auto mode, correct. BTW year model is 02

If you lose vacuum, which has been known to happen, the auto lock feature won't work, so you have to manually lock the hubs to get the 4wd to work.

On these hubs if the auto stops working, just be aware that the seal in the back of the steering knuckles go bad and let water into the hub locks. That really gets bad as the hubs seize up and the needle bearings that support the axle seize also. So if you do have to start using the manual lock don't wait to long to figure out what is wrong. I don't want to see you have to go through the mess I had!

Yes Barry, I had a thread on it. lol. What I did was test the front hub locking and not locking by unpluging the box on the fender that contrrols the vacuum going to the fromt hubs. I will not use this that much so I found that if you unplug the connection then the hubs will not lock. If I was going to use this all the time I would have put a switch in the cab. Other people agreed with this instead of using a switch in the cab.

Dang, missed the thread, I will go look for it. Must have been while I was busy with boat shows and fishing.
