ok, quick run down, need your help, starting truck in morning I have to crank and crank and crank, and then it runs but crappy, PO rebuilt the carb, I just installed a new fuel pump, because I thought it was too loud, and my crankcase is full of gas, thought pump might be leaking into oil, so changed that, before the pump change, i opened up the carb and no gas in float bowl, (the reason for having to crank it) changed pump, figured that was the problem, no luck, still wont hold fuel in float bowl, carb looks clean and new parts are still shinin' inside, float needle is not sticking, it moves like it should, however after the fuel pump (and oil) change i test drove it, seemed to run different, but dont know about better, you could tell when I accelerated, braked, or turned corners, seemed like float bowl was going all over the place, wanted to cut out and die, checked new oil this morning and still has gas in it, what the hells going on? the carbs been rebuilt, the pump is new, why is it running so crappy? and why is my fuel leaving my float bowl and going into my oil?
p.s. its a 2bbl holley on a 360 w/auto
WOW--and I think I have problems!! My 71 has a 302 and a rebuilt 2100 series autolite carb. I bought it on ebay. Never again!! This carb runs like crap. I can start it up,and it runs rough as all heck. I thought it was old gas--but now it has a fresh tank. The 302 2 bbl runs like a garden tractor. What gives? Is the auto.choke messed up? I don't mean to high-jack your thread--but I see why fuel injection is favored now!! I think a reman.carb is coming soon......Bill

Just overhaul the carb...the same 2V carb kit (regardless of the engine size) was used: 1963/74.
D4AZ-9A586-A .. Carb Kit (Motorcraft CT-499-A)
Was the ebay carb actually overhauled? Someone coulda just sprayed it with carb cleaner, to make it look nice.
It wouldn't be the first time that was done. There's a lotta crooks out there just waiting to take your money.
btw: No Ford engine in a car, F100/350, Econoline...whatever...used a Holley 2V after 1962.
I was told it was a holley, not really sure though, no numbers or tags or anything, how can I tell what carb I have with no numbers to go off of? could my 2 problems (no fuel in float bowl and gas in my oil) be different problems? I just assumed they were related, I need this problem resolved by saturday, very important occasion coming up that not having my truck is not an option, I need time to order parts, figure out what parts I need, and install said parts, and then I need a little leeway time incase something else goes wrong. Can you tell what carb it is by looking at it? Why is my float bowl draining into my crankcase?
ok, heres a little update, took top off carb, poured gas in float bowl and held down float needle, and fuel still emptied from carb, I see no cracks in base and no fuel coming out on the outside of carb and none pooling on intake, no drips from underneath, wheres it going? my crankcase? why?

I have no idea what your Holley carb (if that's what you have) looks like.
Some Holleys have HOLLEY on the rectangular shaped float bowl - front of the carb. Some Holley's have a glass float bowl.
If I see a pic, I might be able to tell what it is, and what it's from.
Can you take pics of your carb and post them in your gallery? Take at least one pic of the front of the carb.
If you have a NAPA or a good independent autoparts store nearby, they have pics of the Ford 2V, and other carbs, you might go there.
wish I knew, PO rebuilt the carb right before selling it to me, it might not be the holley, so does it still have a power valve? i havent taken the carb off yet, but i did fill the bowl, and the float does float (but there is this weird small bubble in the float (manuf. defect?)), could the float needle seat be screwed up and thats why it still drained even though i held the needle down?, also was looking at a carb diagram and Im missing a part as well, it is some sort of diaphragm that mounts to the front left side of the carb, on top, and should have a spring under it along with some type of linkage, that entire diaphragm assy is gone, what is this and what does it do?

Where that "diaphragm" goes on the top of the carb, followed by a coil spring > >
> > On your carb, is there a cover with a small center hole in it and three small screws holding it on? Or..is there just a hole with three screw holes in a triangular shaped pattern around it?
If so...That's where the choke pull off diaphragm goes. You have either a Ford Auto-Lite or Motorcraft 2V carb.
DOAZ-9J554-A .. Choke Control Diaphragm Cover
DOAZ-9J549-C .. Choke Pull Off Diaphragm (Motorcraft CM-1283)
D0AZ-9587-A .. Choke Control Spring (Motorcraft CM-1271) ~ 1.00" long / .80" O.D.
The cover goes on first, it has a small hole in the center of it for the choke pull off diaphragms goose necked arm to poke through...the spring is below the diaphragm.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Front of the carb = is there a 4 bolt square cover with a horizontal lever on it?
If so, that's the accelerator pump cover and lever...another indication you have a Ford carb.
the gaskets on your intake manifold could be bad. theres water jackets, oil jackets, and intake ports on the heads where everything needs to be sealed up like a champ otherwise you can get coolant in your oil, oil in your coolant, gas in your oil..... and subsequently this puts your dick in the dirt, lol.
There is a square accelerator pump on the front, where the part is missing (choke pull off) there is a round hole with 6 screw holes in a triangular fashion (the holes are doubled up), if the intake gasket is leaking, would this cause the float bowl to drain?

Ford 2V carburetor...guar-anteed. Holley's don't have that cover there.
The rubber portion of that diaphragm has 6 screws holes doubled up (2x2x2), the diaphragm cover has only three screw holes.
Is the cover over the diaphragm still there, or is it missing?
btw: Your truck is a 1969, right?
That's not the original carb, that diaphragm was not used in 1969, 1970 was the first year for it.
Chitcan that POS carb, get another, like the Edelbrock mentioned above.
Its a 69, "supposedly" the original carb, guess not though, has a manual choke, and the diaphragm cover is missing, whats the likely hood of simply changing carbs and curing my fuely-oil problem?

It's not the original carb, because if you have a manual choke, you wouldn't need that choke pull off diaphragm. That's 1970 and later.
1967's with a 352 / 1968/69's with 360/390's have a manual choke.
1970/72's with 360/390's do not.
btw: In case you're wondering, I'm reading this info straight from the 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog.
You can (should) have the parts catalog. It's available on a CD from hipoparts.com / also on ebay. The price is around 25 bucks.
EVERY part on your truck is illustrated, so the parts catalog can also be used as an assembly/dis-assembly manual.
