I'D LIKE TO DO SOME PORT WORK OR CLEAN-UP ON
MY HEADS. I'VE NEVER DONE IT BEFORE BUT AM LOOKING
FOR ADVISE. IF I CAN DO IT I WILL, IT IS NOT A MUST
SO I DON'T WANT TO DISH OUT MONEY TO A PRO BECAUSE
I'M NOT BUILDING A RACE TRUCK.

You can do a little porting on the exhaust side.

the intake side is good as is, just machine your intake valve seat to fit a 2.19" one, it willl better your flow...

Don't do any work on the intake port, but you can do shortside radius and bowl work on both the intake and exhaust ports. The exhaust port should be polished as smooth as possible.

No, the Intake Manifold outlet port should be smaller than the head inlet port to reduce reversion.

Reversion is a pulse of air/fuel mixture that is reflected off the intake valve after the valve closes. It is the result of the wave motion that's setup in the intake manifold and head when the mixture reaches high velocity. This wave motion is beneficial, since it increases the charge in the cylinder, but the reflections into the intake manifold can cause turbulance and reduce the flow. Intake manifold manufacturers design their manifolds to reduce this reversion. Any attempt to port match will compromise this feature.

The gasket should be close to the port size and location. A small amount of matching will be OK, but if there is a lot of material that needs to be removed, it's time to find different gaskets.

Oh no! I port to match gasket to manifold and head and sand manifold with fine grid to smooth everything, almost polish!
Danlee what is the short side radius and bowl work?
arround the valve (inside the head)?

Imho, the short side on those heads are the worst of seen, nearly a 90 degree angle. They can be rounded and smoothed easily, just did a set for a dirt track car. The bowls can be opened up some as well. i wouldn't mess with any guide work if your seats are done already. A good multiangle valvejob and good valves help a lot.
