I have a set of heads for a 400 which I just bought.. Now am i correct to assume that the heads for these motors have an "M" cast on them??? I think they may be a set of 2V cleavland heads. The one valve is a little bigger than 2" (approv 2.2"). The Number on them is D5AE-A2A....
All 351c,m,400 heads are basically the same as far as valves, valve train, and bolt up configuration. I have noticed slight differences in intake and exhaust runner castings, but nothing too serious, mainly in the valve guide area. Make sure you have new performance valves and seats installed, as they are known for burning valves.
M-block heads from the Cleveland Foundry (CF mark) have the "M" in the upper corners of the head. M-block heads from the Michigan Casting Center (MCC mark) usually do not have the "M" in the corners.
Other than the corner marks, another way to tell 351C heads from M-block heads is the location of the casting part number. M-block heads have the part number on the top of the head (under the valve cover), while 351C heads have the part number on the intake side, below the intake ports.
the heads you have are post-'75 model m-block heads. they have 2.08/1.65 valves, and 76cc open chambers. they also have pedestal mount rockers. the m-block heads are esentially the same as 2-bbl cleveland heads port and chamber wise. they really are good heads to work with, except for the big chambers. (good as compared to 302 and 351w heads, anyway)

Good as compared to just about ANY stock head. Ch*vdorks drool over "big" 2.02 intakes on 350s while 351M heads have 2.04s (2.08s are on 460s) stock and flow like no bowtie ever thought about. The open comb. chamber leaves a little to be desired but flow characteristics are great.
If you really want to get scary then have them cut for the 4V 2.19"/1.71" I/E valves and they will actually outflow the 4V heads because they have better exhaust ports.
