Window motor blues
I have a 92 F 150, whoose driver side window motor works, but the window will not go up w/out manual assist. I also have a 94 parts truck. My question is what is the diff betw the two motors, can I swap them w minimal reengineering? The parts store said that 92 and 93 motors are diff f the 94 and up. So can I swap them or are they just trying to sell me a new part?

My advice would be to look for someone locally that replaces the window regulators. That is where your problem is. We have a local guy that does that and will come out to your vehicle for under $100 - parts included. No mess, no fuss and the window works smooth. I'm sure if you check with a local body shop they can turn you on to such a person in your area.

I have had problems with both of my power windows on my 1988 F-150. Here is what I learned. Both times the motor worked - it just stopped raising the window except with help – as you described yours.

The first time I replace the motor and regulator because you can’t buy them separately - cost about $100. The replacement motor worked much slower than the factory one.

The second time I found out about window motor bushings. They are nylon bushings that fit in the gears attached to the motor and eventually wear out. I would bet money that’s what’s happening to you. The motor runs but can’t lift the window because the bushings are shot.

So – here’s what to do. Go to eBay and do a search for “Ford power window repair”. You will see lots of hits. They cost about $4-5 although the shipping is a rip-off at about $10. However, for about $15 you can get you window back in action. The guy I bought from had instructions and a regular web site with info.
