HAH!! at last

I found the right number finally!! heh

D1AE A10 with the (date?) raised stamp of 12

8 bolts on the valve covers

sounds to me like I have a match........400m!!

71 motor based on the d decade code for 70's and 1 being the year code.....stop me if I am wrong here

is this the 400 that was prior to all the cut backs in the hp and stuff? think I read something on this site that referred to 71 being the first year of this motor being made?

whats the extra E for after the D1A? and the A10?

I am a world of questions here I know, but I am very appreciative of you guys' help.

thanks alot,
jeff

You definitely have an early 400 but the blocks are all identical except for 1 cast with a small block bell housing bolt pattern. The difference in HP was due to different pistons, not changes to the block and you'd have to pull the heads and check the pistons to find out.
