Frame on 89 F150 SB is bent. Not springs, I checked that. In any event, I need to find someone that can straighten the frame. When looking at the truck from the rear, the left corner is lower by 1.5 to 1.75 inches.
Truck recently painted and curious if this can be done with bed attached or will it possibly do damage to the bed. Only area that is out of whack is the extreme left rear corner.
Can the bed be removed carefully enough not to do any damage to paint?
Any idea on cost for something like this? I'd like to get this repaired before I spray the bed.
Thanks for your comments.
Are youo certain it isn't the body mount itself since they are made of rubber?
Or the metal surrounding the mount could be crushed. If the frame is bent and the
truck still drives down the road straight then it would be a simple job. If the frame
rails are not parallel then it is more involved. If you have a big truck garage give
them a call and they will be able to point you to a shop capable of doing the job.
I'm not certain about the rubber mount. I had disregarded that a while ago as I was told by a spring company that it could be corrected by removing the leafs and "pounding them" to put back the arc. Well, it didn't work. I did replace the ubolts at that time, so it was not a wasted effort. I guess I can bring it to a knowledgeable shop. I suspect either the mount or metal is crushed and the frame is ok. This was never used off road and the heaviest thing in the bed was the rebuilt engine that was put in a few years ago...Not that thats light but I was not there to see how it was loaded.
If it was put in by a decent size front end loader (not bobcat), it is possible the bed was crushed or the frame bent. They can exert 6-8 tons of downwards pressure easy with the bucket.
The only way to really tell whats wrong for sure, is to take it to a frame and body alignment shop. They will do all sorts of laser measuring and whatnot, and then properly straighten it.
