Third Update, my apologies in taking so long to update the progress of this problem/project. I've been busy with life in general, specifically a house addition construction. Anyways, It appears that I've corrected the air leak that was causing the lean condition on bank 2. I retightened the header bolts both at the head and the Y-pipe connection. I believe the air leak was coming from the y-pipe connection. This past Saturday I went to my tuner to pick up my SCT Xcal 2 and he plugged in his diagnostic computer and read the fuel trim levels. The fuel trim levels read anywhere from 1% to 3% max at idle. Which is fairly normal. Before when it had the air leak it was reading up to 20% on bank 2 trying to make up for the lean condition.
While I was there at my tuner's shop, I picked up my Xcal 2 and a set of 24# injectors. He put a custom tune for the stock injectors to get me by until I have a chance to install the 24 pounders. The truck responded to that tune very well. The truck acts like it has a 393 in it now instead of thinking it has a 302. It has a lot more power and acts like a completely different truck. I am anxious to get the 24 pounders installed and reflash the ecm for those 24 pounders and see how the truck acts.
One question I have now is: Is pinging or detonation an indication of too little fuel or too much fuel? I'm wondering this because now that the ecm is tuned for the 393 the engine pings under 1/2 to full throttle acceleration with out even hauling or pulling a load. This is the only exception to my rave reviews of how my truck acts now that it is tuned for the 393. I'm thinking that once I install the 24# injectors and reflash the ecm for those injectors that the pinging might go away or at least be improved. Any thoughts?
You'll have to get the details of the "custom tune", either it has too much advance at part throttle and/or the motor needs more fuel at part throttle. You should have enough control with the SCT tuner to modify the necessary tables, sounds like it's time to get your feet wet and make some adjustments. .
