Well after my second lifter going....cheap parts stay away from Johnson lifters...and after having a ton of end show up out of nowhere and coat my motor with sand I've decided to start all over...I'd really like to put in a roller cam this time...two questions...ok three questions lol. 1 and recommandations? 2 Do I have to run roller rockers and if I do do they mount on the factory shafts? And 3 what if any block mods need to be done?
Cam recommendations? If it's a stocker, then don't go too big. Large roller cams eat valve springs due to fast ramps(open/closing of valve). You won't get 100K miles with a big cam.
You don't NEED roller rockers, but if you are going roller cam, you might as well purchase some rockers too. Something like Harland Sharp will slide right on your stock shafts.
Yep Larry's right ....about not going too big with stock parts....Just myself doing a couple for Customer's and a few for family...I do suggest if your going to run one at any kinda RPM...run some end stands on the shafts...and "I" would run a roller rocker as well....Its part of the whole roller Game...As the roller cams have a fast ramp on them and can like Larry said beat the hell out of the Valve train if not looked after!
So in my opinion, when running anything other than a smaller Hydraulic cam "flat Tappet" Its always best to go with fresh parts even if there stock..and then depending on lift and duration..Start building up the valve train.... JMO
PS..By the way..are you planning on running a Hydraulic roller or a solid roller cam? we would like to get a little more info on your build? and intended use!
