Oh what I wouldn't give to have grown up in them days. Good ol' Buddy Holly, Waylon Jennings, and of course some classic rock, oh ya! And them nice trucks and muscle cars! That picture is some nice alright! I looked at the picture before I read what you said, and I thought it was a Ford ad haha.
Nice picture! I'll never forget the simpler days of growiing up on the farm with Dad and his Ford trucks, a '58, '63, and '72. The '58 was my first driver, 1967. 272 with a 3 on the tree, no radio. Been on a 1,600 farm for life, rattled like a paint shaker, but put a 9v AM radio in it, hang the antenna out the window and go cruise Main! Wouldn't trade for anything. That's what I remember and so much more every time I get in my ole yeller truck.
Cool picture. It brings back great memories of some of the trucks dad had while I was growing up.
If that picture was taken today your grandad would be busted for child endangerment. Most of todays kids will never know the thrill of riding in the back of a pickup.

No lie. Nothin like riding in the back after a day of hoeing cotton! Cooler back there with the wind! No seat belts, no air bags, riding in the back, shoot, we're not supposed to be here! LOL
My 12 yo grand lives with me, lost his mom in auto accident 8yrs ago, thinks I'm working on this truck for him down the road, and, well, might be.
The cool thing was even though the combine was stopped to unload ..within 2 years of that day all use kids would be "catching it on the fly" then head for the granary and get back as quick as we could.
My last time harvesting in 2001 was me driving the semi with the 40 Yard box and catching Barley on the fly from the straight cut combine.
My cousin (The boy with only his left hand out) eventually worked the farm until 2005 and is now renting it out.
So No more farm vacations for me.
Just wait until you guys see Grandpas restored grain truck.
Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and JP Richardson (the Big Bopper) were killed in an airplane crash in Iowa in 1959.
Dennis, I see just a hint of an emblem on the fender-rear of your uncles Ford truck, making it a 1965 or 1966.
Your grandpa's truck looks like a 1939/41 GMC.
The emblem on the side of the hood sez: General Motors Truck.
We could still actually drive that truck right up until about 1982.
IIRC it had a Manual engine crank.
I remember getting seat springs piercing my butt because the seat was so mouse invested.
Talk about Armstrong steering.. one day stuck in the mud it took Jim & I both to turn the steering wheel.
I'll look for some old B&W photos,I know I have some here somewhere.
i know a guy that has 53 international vf-190 that is a tandem axle with a roadranger 10 sp and i think a 343 gas that still hauls 400 bu of grain a load and is sill in service today
