As I hinted to in other threads I had quite the off day when working on my 69, good news oil leak is taken care off but on the other hand still got a brake issue, a carb. issue and me and dad pretty much screwed up the motor in the 1969, got it workable but ya, not sure if it will last or not time will tell.
How bad is the brake issue? The carb can`t much of a problem, let`s hope the motor lasts, now maybe time to look for a good used one. What did happen to the motor?
Brakes aren't too bad, the only thing is I can't fully bleed them since one of the bleeding nipples got broke off by road debris so I have topump the brake pedal 4 or 5 times before it builds up pessure, just have to live with it for this week
The carb isn't much of a problem but right now thats pretty much the least of my problems.
Ok here is the motor story.
I was replacing the tappet cover gasket but a PO decided to not use factory bolts years ago and used a couple replacment bolts and one turned out to be longer then the hole provides room for. For some reason it worked for him but when I tightened it. The bolt head snaped while being buried in the block.
There wasn't enough thread showing to grip with pliers or to weld a nut onto it.
So
I got dad and he was going to try a E-Z out. But as he was drilling a hole in the bolt he never felt the difference between the end of the bolt and the block. So for those of you confused short story
Dad drilled a 1/4" hole into my block (so the motor will not hold coolant)
worse part even with the hole the E-Z out was not strong enough to get the bolt dislodged. but thankfully eventually a combo of torching it, E-Z out and drilling, what remained of the bolt came out.
The repair
we did get a threaded rod in the hole eventually with thread sealant.
I drove it from Colonsay to Saskatoon after all this and still no leaks as of yet.
Don't know about anyone reepairing blocks. If its not leaking yet maybe it'll be ok.
And yes I have been measuring the engine Bay wow so many cool motors would fit like a glove... lol
And yes Sherm much worse, another girl comes easy, another 300 thats doesn't burn oil and hits 20+ MPG. Whats that Alan Jackson song. "Daddy please just take the girl...." don't think it quite goes like that but close enough
