engine start up
I have recently decided to swap in a 351w in place of my worn out 351m, one problem, even though the 351w has 0nly 38,000 on it when it was pulled out it was left sitting in the barn without the oil cap , the water lines, heater hoses, transmission dip stick and tube, and the cooler lines, there was no fluid left in the engine or transmission,What should I do before I start it up besides priming the oil pump, what should i do if there are any dirt dauber nests? what about putting in some
oil and oil detergent and running that through it for a few minutes, and then changing it and the filter , would that do the trick?

I would be VERY suspicious of unwanted debris in that motor. Heck, the whole block could be full of mouse nest! If it has sat wide open like you say, I would at least pull the pan and have a look around.
