The project is a 1999 Ranger SCab, currently 2wd with a 3.0 auto.
This will be done after I do my 84 FSB SAS.
I am looking for a solid axle D44 or D35 for the Ranger and I need to get a TC mounted to the auto tranny - either an adapter or find a tranny from a 4x4 Ranger.
Nothing, just something to do, I like finding parts and making something out of them. No fun in buying a factory 4x, plus I would like a solid front end. Just plain different.
Here's the thing to do. Run a divorced t-case, spaced back far enough to make the corresponding outputs equa-distant from the yokes on the axle. This way you can retain your stock transmission(2wd's are way easier to find), and if you have a spare driveshaft made up, it will work front or rear, depending on which one you break. I'm not sure about space issues under a ranger, but if it allows, ex. theres nothing major in the way, then that's how I would personally do it.
I am pretty sure I can use a BW1354 in a divorced set up, There is enough length in the Scab Ranger to do this, and it maybe easier to mount a transfercase.
I decided to use a electic shift unit(plenty to be found) and engage the unit with a switch. Possibly retro fit a factory switch.
First time I read it a while ago, I thought someone had just mistyped. But once again, I was wrong. I guess it's what they used in rangers and b2's. Didn't know they made a divorced one though. Or maybe hes making it divorced?
khadma,
youve got a great idea in the making but I really dont think they make a BW divorced xcase. Id either find a NP205 from a highboy or buy a stak/atlas box. In hawaii it might be pretty tough to find highboys and shipping would be extremely expensive so you might be better off with aftermarket.
on a serious note. Are there many 73-79s over there?

You sound like me ... Just do things to see if it can be done and because noone else has one just like it ...
Im an idiot when it comes to anything 1980 and up but is there a such thing as a divorced BW1354?
Im thinking no. Why would they?
I was taking Chronos idea about a divorced TC , The 1354 might be able to be set up like this, or I will have to look for a) a 4x4 tranny b) adapter for tc to my current 2wd tranny c) a true divorced tranny (too big) d) aftermarket botoo pricey) e) build a drive shaft to a used BW1354 (divorced).
I'll way the options as I go, BUT ALL OF YOUR INPUT is appreciated.
really, if you had the resources, any case could be made into a divorced case. If you could get a splined shaft to fit the input of the t case, and put it on a jack shaft that had a slip to fit your tranny. You would have to figure out some way of sealing up the input on the case though, and some very custom mounts would have to be made. I guess it all depends on how hard parts are to find for you.
Going by what I know about married and divorced 205s Ill say you cant transform a married to a divorced or the other way around without changing the input side completely. Since there is no factory divorced 1354 to begin with I dont see how its possible. Finding a ranger 4wd transmission would be in your best interest.
I agree with aftermarket being expensive. It was just a off the top of my head suggestion anyway.
