Hey all. My arm rests arrived from Mid Fifty today, and I have some questions.
My truck didn't have factory arm rests. I ordered a set of them and two install kits from Mid Fifty last Sunday, and picked them up at the Post Office today. The arm rests are unpainted, and upholstered. Does anyone sell a ready made kit to upholster the sponge/ padded area, or do I need to have it professionally done?
Second, what color would they be from the factory? Everything on the interior of my truck is green, with the exception of the bench seat that is red. Do both parts of the arm rest match the green body color?
On the trucks that had arm rests, and cardboard door panels they were gray. Kind of a medium gray. If you want to send them to me I'd cover them for ya? You can pick up some spray paint and paint the bases whatever color you want them to be? But if you do send them send the bases too, as they kind of hold the covers on after you glue them on, you mount the pad back on the base and it keeps everything together.
i got mine from mid-fifty too and put the material on myself. And i never did that kind of work before. Wasnt too bad, got some fabric from the local fabric store and some spray on adhesive. Hey Truxx, i wish i had known i would have sent you mine!
Be careful with them big long screws they give you, check to see that they dont hit the glass.. i was a little nervous, i didnt want to scratch my one-piece glass!
I've seen the armrests listed in various catalogs, but they've always been complete units. My truck, 52 F3, has the bases. Any ideas where I can get new pads?
Mike
Mark, I really appreciate the advice. To be honest, I hadn't even considered the posibilty of the screws hitting the glass. I'll be sure to watch for that. Do the screws seem adequate to secure the armrests? It just seems to me that a simple sheet metal screw going into a metal door panel might not hold over the long term. I'm probably just being paranoid, though.
CIAF, it's indeed a very nice and extremely generous offer from Truxx that I'm not going to pass up. I'm going to paint the bases this week, then get them in the mail to him. After seeing the dash that he posted photos of in another post, I'm really excited to see what he does with them.
Bob, according to my Mid Fifty catalog, not all trucks came equipped with them (mine didn't), and the ones that did often only had one on the driver's side.
Hey Lift Tech, I got your armrests covered. I assumed that since you painted them green that was what color you wanted on them? I hope so anyway. I found some green leather that matched almost perfectly. I'm goin to get my wife to send them back to ya tomorrow as long as they were supposed to be green? I think your address is on the box you sent me. Is this the address you want them sent to?
And if there was no A R from factory, do you guy punch the sw holes in the pass door to hold the 2 clips for the screw to hold the stock A R to the door or just use a long SMS??? Hummmmmmmmmm, Terry what does your trade do??
Jon
EDIT: did me the bonehead already ask this above??? duh.....
I found a set of handle from an Isuzu pickup. They looked identical to the F100 handles, They were gray but all plastic, no upholstery needed. Nobody has asked what the handles came from yet? LOL...
