I have to stand by the other guy, ABS on this series of trucks sucked a$$ and rairly worked anyways. The 9" isn't just a pulling rear end either, it's a cool little thing called insurance for that one day you get in a sticky situation and throw some power to it. I've seen 8.8 twist with a stock 351 and another one explode going down the road, yet again a stock 351...hmmm, the only way a 8.8 handles 600hp is by putting enough bracing on one it could hold a bridge and by putting 31 spline axles in it that are other than stock. Sorry to step on toes but I would run a 9" anyday over a 8.8", but thats what comes from seeing somany 8.8 blow up and never seeing a 9 break with anything under about 450hp stock.

A simple welding of the axle tubes does fine and yes put some axle with a new trac lok in it, for what this guy wants he wouldnt even have to do that. a 9" is good but then you are still going to change the axles which will cost more to build.

How is that going to cost more money, if he can get a 9" for next to nothing which I got one given to me, how is that going to cost more, all Ford rear ends in the trucks between 85 ish through 96 are the same width, no change there, you simply get a stronger, tougher, better rear end minus the crudy ABS, how does that cost more. And why would you need different axles, the 8.8 is the one that needs the upgrade in axles, not the 9" even the 28 spline 9" axles are stronger than the 8.8 31 spline.

My point is that parts are more for a 9",gears, axles ,etc... And if you are making serious hp than you have to build the 9" also. I do this for a living so i know, why do you think they sell all these aftermarket parts. I can show you at least 10 8.8's under 9 second and below cars that have been running for years with no problems. Welded axle tubes, and a girdle and good axles{moser or strange}

I'm still sticken firm. And how do you say parts are cheaper for a 9", it's the most plentiful rear end ever, besides the D60, D44, GM10 bolt and your beloved 8.8" coming in last but not least. 9" gears and axles are insanely cheap if you know where to look. Personal I like Dutchman but thats because the old rod shop I worked for did alot of business through them. Yes, small rear ends can in certain events handles several hundred HP, but at the cost of drivablity (lockers, spools, un sprung weight from bracing, ect..) and durability over time. How much do you want to bet those rear ends your refering to were tore down, and or freshened up EVERY season. I too have been doing this since I was knee high to a grass hoper, granted I'm only 18 but have been around this for my whole life and am going to wyotech to study even more on it.
Exactly your 18 you dont know, you find me the parts cheaper because i want to see this, I own a performance business so i know what parts cost more than others. And the 8.8's that i know of have been running up to 5 years no problems, if you know what you are doing they will last. Why do you think they sell 9" housings all braced and reinforced, because stock ones will break. When you get out of a diaper then you can come try to tell me something i already know. Until then just sitback and learn son!!
