Sorry "According to FORD the AC compressor will only run above ~50 degrees F (10 C)." should have read: According to FORD my AC compressor will only run above ~50 degrees F (10 C).
I'm a lifelong fisherman, am very picky about my seafood & have had shrimp around the world. I routinely buy shrimp directly from a 3rd generation shrimper I've known for years. They're so big 6 make a meal & the heads are the best part! IMO they're a much better bargain than MickeyD's. I've asked for & gotten his best $20 bag of shrimp almost weekly & it makes 6-8 meals. Looking forward to warmer weather & the shrimp spawn. They're the biggest of the season & their roe is extraordinary. These jumbo heads on shrimp really deserve your jealousy. Bring the Labatts, I'll sacrifice one to steam some peel'n'eat shrimp in for you.
For "comfort food" & honoring my Irish ancestors I've got a corned beef in the frig, along w/red potatoes, fresh out of the field cabbage, carrots & a hearty new mustard for St. Patrick.

you're irish too?? make no wonder we like to argue so much... i'd love a meal of cabbage... not too many people eat that here anymore... back home the sunday dinner consisted of pot roast, then, potats, carrots, turnip/squash, cabbage, all boiled with a hearty chunk of salt beef ribblets...some peas pudding and a steamed pudding. man i miss home.
Part Irish. As far as I'm concerned cabbage is Soul Food. Cole slaw, stuffed cabbage, cabbage soup, sauerkraut, plain old boiled, what have you got? They grow an enomous amount of cabbage near me in Hastings, which is also well known for potatoes-they begin to be harvested next month.

My 4 Grandparents came from 4 different countries. The Irish lineage came early enough to fight in the American Revolution, the others came over on ships.
The Russian side left me with a great Kosher pot roast treat called dempt meat. The seered roast is simmered w/garlic, paprika & tomatoes, potatoes, onions & carrots.
Now turnips are something "not too many people eat that here anymore" although they too are grown here. My Uncle used to grow them & sold them for years via a self serve roadside stand.
I'm guessing there wouldn't be much to argue about when it comes to food?
i believe that it runs at a lot colder temps than that. i've heard
seen it cut in when i switch the dial to DEFrost... there is an audible change in engine tone, and its easy to see a slight decrease in MPG when its used just as the A/C in the summertime.
So that's why I've been getting 6-7mpg lately...
Something's wrong with my vaccum lines...so I'm always on Defrost...
Vacuum lines control the blend door that distribute air.

Vacuum lines do not control 12V functions & should not be involved in switching on the electric clutch that runs the AC compressor.
Just b/c air is being directed to the windshield does not mean the compressor is running. With the control in either the PANEL or FLOOR positions the compressor should be switched off, providing heat, fresh air or a mix-but no AC.

So why does my engine's RPM surge as soon as I turn the switch to anything but "OFF"?
Duh! Perhaps you should start your own "can someone explain??" thread. You can't expect us to be mindreaders.

While vacuum controls do not account for turning the AC compressor on/off, vacuum leaks are linked to problems with idle control & regulating FI mixture. Quite likely related to your "getting 6-7mpg lately". If still in doubt you could try pulling the AC clutch fuse to assure yourself the compressor can't cut in inappropriately.
Note: When AC cuts in you shouldn't see "RPM surge". The idle controls should sense a decline in RPM from the added load & quickly restore RPM.
This is possibly the most disfunctional thread I've ever read on this forum. Not only am I completely confused, but I'm starving too. I want to eat shrimp in my truck that have been cooked over my defroster with Oh Danny Boy playing on the CD player.
