96 Explorer Differential problem.. gear ratios??
My 1996 XLT Explorer has an intermitant clunking in the rear end. Mechanic looked at the punkin and said no problem there.......... thinks it may be a bearing... What do you think? Am thinking of R&R of whole rear end..
Also how do I determine rear gear ratio..... from the tag code on the rear end tag. "S613C R" and "7388 6F13"

S613C is the axle model number. The first entry on the second row is the gear ratio. There should have been a three at the front that was under the bolt head or something, so that should be 3.73 gears. The 88 stands for an 8.8 rear end, and the 6F13 is the production sequence number.
