I have never seen this myself but there is supposed to be a casting ledge behind the distributor on a 351m. The block is flat behind the distributor on a 351c. I reason this to be, because both engines use the same distributor, but the 351m has a taller deck (block) and a wider intake manifold. It stands to reason you would have to step the taller block down to use the same length distributor as the shorter block (351c).

I pasted this from your question I answered from the other forum. If you know where the motor in question came from originally, this would also help in determining what type engine you have.

yes, there is a difference....an easy way to check is to measure between the top 2 bolts for the bell housing....a sb is about 5 1/4", and a bb is about 7 1/2", and an FE is, of course, round
