Might be a future SD buyer (05 F150 now) and it seems most of the Lariat or KR trucks around here (BayArea, California) have 20" rims on (a $1400 option)
<O
If purchasing the truck can the dealership swap the wheels with another Lariat/KR with the 18" and deduct the $1400 from the price? <O Aside from looks any pros/cons for 18"vs20"?( i looked on Tirerack.com and the tires seems to be about the same price)any drawbacks in towing or mpg?<OIn the event of a possible purchase i would be towing a 20ft long BP horse trailer with about 7,500-9,000lbs total weight depending on number of horses (2-3)<O<O></O>
The 20" will handle better because of less sidewall flex. I manage a tire store in the North Bay area and I don't think it's really a big savings to swap the 20's for 18's. The way the industries been going, everything will be 20's before long. Many people are buying the trucks with 17's or 18's and going to 20's. Enjoy the bling.
20's on the ex are great. I have the american racing teflon coated thugs with some 35" toyo open country m/t tires and it's a great set-up. Can't want to get the new rancho 9000's and hellwig installed and see the additional added differnce.
The other thing I am wanting to do is take off the factory running boards and install the retractable ones that are black. I think it would look a heck of alot better.
I have 20" Dune 8 Weld Wheels with 35" Toyo Open Country M/T tires and they have worked great for me. I'm planning on replacing the tires with Nitto Terra Grapplers before fall. I hope to get improved mpg going from the M/T to A/T. Has anyone done this and noticed fuel improvement?
