Squeaky Speedometer
After I've been driving around for a little while, I can hear a pretty good squeaking coming from the speedometer gauge. I realize it needs some lube, but do I just pull out the cable it smear it all in there or what?

I've seen a spray lube but I know there is a grease that coats the cable. Chances are that the noise you are hearing isn't the speedometer but the cable as it enters the cab. Over time the lube breaks down or wears too thin causing the metal cable to squeak.

Had simular problem where it sounded like cable was doing one thing and speedo doing another, distinct sound coming from the speedo, lot of noise. Checked and found the retaining connected securing cable to speedo had worked lose. While at it, removed cable and lubricated, not excessive, using what I had left over from greasing the suspension, and drive shaft bearings. There is also a felt washer that sets just inside the speedo housing where the cable inserts. If missing, suggest picking 1 up with next trip to parts store. Use caution, don't think you want to apply too much grease to the washer.
